The 100 word challenge is all about creative writing. Students create a text by using the prompt they have been given. The prompts range from images, sentences, five words, to sound clips. Each week a new prompt is given and the learners of Room 9 create a piece of writing in a google doc, share it with me, and once recrafted following some feedback/feedforward from me, their writing is submitted to the 100 Word Challenge blog. Once on the blog their writing is open to feedback from an audience of millions from all over the world, and could be chosen in the showcase.
Room 9 were introduced to the idea of the 100 Word Challenge in week eight of Term Two, as part of their home learning. Not all Room 9 learners have taken up the challenge, but those that have are showing growth in their skills as authors.
Here is an example of a weekly newsletter that is emailed to the teachers of participating classrooms. This week (24/10), my feedback to Julia featured in the Ways to use 100WC!!
Here are some examples of Room 9 learners writing, and the feedback/feedforward I provide them...
